January 11, 2020
Happy New Year! Despite the chaos of this past week, we sincerely hope that 2021 is a positive year ahead for all.
We’ve been receiving lots of emails lately asking about registration opening and what the plan is for this year’s race. As you can imagine, it has been extremely difficult trying to navigate this seemingly never-ending pandemic, restrictions, requirements, and planning ahead has become next to impossible.
With much heartbreak, we’ve decided to cancel this year’s Rock Tahoe Half Marathon on Saturday, June 19, 2021. We understand people are tired of doing events (heck, life!) virtually, so we will not be offering a virtual race this year either.
For all of our loyal runners who were already registered, we are refunding everyone’s 2021 race registrations.
While some events have been able to navigate the current (and ever changing) restrictions, our event and race setup makes it near to impossible to accommodate waved starts, social distancing, etc. with our 2,000 runners plus spectators and volunteers. We feel that Rock Tahoe is more than just a race, it’s the full weekend experience -- if we can’t have the full event with a pool party, finish line festival, etc. safely, it’s better to press pause for now and wait for another year.
We know many of our runners plan months ahead of time for their trip to book travel and accommodations, so we decided to make the call on the race now. January/February is also when we normally order all of our shirts and medals. We could not in good faith move forward and possibly end up in a last-minute cancellation like so many races went through this past year. By canceling now, we are able to provide registration refunds to our runners.
This isn’t goodbye, it’s just see you later…like, June 18th, 2022. We’ve got it on our calendar so make sure you book that date too! More information on 2022’s registration will be out later this summer/early Fall.
This past year has certainly been a roller coaster and we hope you all remember that for now, we are Stronger Together by Running Apart!
Be well and be awesome,
Jess and Jason
